One Day You're In, The Next Day You're Out

These are my favorite looks from each of the finalists' line, which showed at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. I have to say that my favorite two designers this season were Anya and Viktor. What I loved about all of Anya's designs throughout the season was that she was not afraid to used print and color. And same goes with Viktor; the way he used his own prints in the finale to give an edgy girl vibe gained my vote. Nevertheless, each designer showed multiple pieces that I would gladly have in my closet.

TGIF

Whenever I'm feeling down or just blah, this is my go-to inspirational song by one of my favorite bands, Foster the People. It reminds me that life is just too short to waste a single day of it, and that if you put your mind to anything you can achieve it. The perfect song to start a much-needed weekend.
Enjoy (:

OOTD 10/26/11 Layers, Layers, Layers

(striped shirt: Forever 21; denim button up: Zara; army jacket: Last Kiss; skirt: Target; tights: DKNY;  boots: Enzo Angiolini)

I was inspired by Rebecca's outfit post yesterday (and the fact that I woke up freezing) and decided to try out the multiple layer outfit myself. What I love about layering is that you can put together a bunch of clothes that in your mind would look hideous together, but once you put them on the outfit just works. Layers are also great for winter because you're all warm and toasty when you leave the house and once you get that heat flash you just peel off the layers.

After peel #2
Tied the second layer around my waist like little kids do when they're running around the park; or like  Man Repeller does

OOTD 10/25/11 and quality time spent with the bathroom

(jacket: Old Navy, hoodie: American Apparel, dress (worn as a shirt): tank top; unknown, H&M, skirt: XXI, skirt underneath: unknown, black tights: unknown, boots: Minnetonka)

(Pictures taken by Ruthie Solomon, editing by us both.)

COUNT IT- one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, EIGHT layers.
I was shvitching all over the place, yo!

On another note, (or maybe not because I'm still talking about my outfit,) I don't actually own that much clothing.
That isn't necessarily a bad thing though; not having copious amounts of clothing to choose from just forces me to be more crafty and creative with what I have. The dress is worn tucked into the pink skirt because I didn't have the ideal black shirt for the outfit, and the skirt is just tucked in at the front with the extra fabric folded in to add dimension and imaginary pockets.

More after the jump.

In case the tiles and stall doors weren't enough proof of our location.

Delivery!

The long awaited arrival of my fluorescent pink Cambridge Satchel has finally come! I originally ordered the satchel back in July, but since I wasn't home that week to sign for the bag, they sent it back England. I was so excited to have the perfect pop of color to add to my summer wardrobe so it was a major bummer not to have it. But after sorting out the situation with the very friendly people of Cambridge Satchel Company, they sent it back to me overnight and it is finally HERE! Safely in my arms! And blindingly neon! The box should come with a warning to put on some sunglasses before opening the package because the pictures on the website really do not do the color justice (these pictures don't do the color much justice either). I'm so excited to add it to my fall/winter wardrobe for the perfect burst of cheerful brightness during the dark winter days. Ahh there's nothing like a  perfect new statement piece...

DARNnearlyDAILYDUDS

(jacket: Urban Outfitters, hoodie: American Apparel,  jeans: BDG, boots: Minnetonka, scarf: Pashmina, hat: Dr. Dog, shirt (not seen): borrowed from a friend)

As the name of our blog alludes, our plan is to post on a daily basis. However, there are certain factors (such as school, holidays, personal lives, the like) that will sometimes keep us from doing just that. Sadly, darnnearlydailyduds just doesn't sound as catchy, but we hope you'll understand.  Please accept our DEEPEST apologies and this imaginary pie that I am handing you, right now, this instant, over the computer, as a gift and token of our gratitude.

On another note, the hat is from a Dr. Dog concert that I went to last year- hands down one of my top 5 favorite concert experiences. The song below is a good one to revisit every-so-often and is a foolproof mood lifter.

OOTD 10/19/11

(shirt: Material Girl; jeans: Forever 21; shoes: Bakers)

Gross weather calls for a comfy outfit...and an excuse to wear my new wedges to the Cheesecake Factory. I'm always looking for an excuse to wear heels since I'm too young to wear them on a daily basis, and I decided that going out for lunch was a good enough reason. I also decided to have an opposite day and wear my shirt backwards so the short part was in back showing off my half Latina backside....flipping your shirt is a good way to get different usage out of your tops (just make sure to cut the tag off first before your chest gets all red and itchy).
P.S. The back of my door behind me covered in my fashion inspiration from different ads and editorials.

00TD 10/18/11

I've been searching for the perfect neutral fall sweater and I finally found it at H&M. Its super soft and  perfect for layering or wearing on its own with anything from jeans to a mini; definitely living in it this fall!

My outfit of the day is loosely reminiscent of the A/W 2010 military fashion trend that I never really got over. An army green jacket and combat boots is the easiest way to go if you're interested in trying it out, just make sure to keep everything understated.

(shirt: unknown; jacket: Urban Outfitters; jeans: Cheap Monday; scarf: some Indian store in the Village; boots: too old to remember)

May we just say that as cool as most popular bloggers look in their pictures, the whole photo-shoot part is remarkably awkward? Staring off into the distance and keeping a pretty face is not as easy at it seems... So we have some techniques to help you out!
  1. Channel a fashion blogger you know is a pro at it (Rebecca- personally I think froufrouu is a good place to start).
  2. In your head (or out loud if your photographer already knows that you're insane) speak to the inanimate objects that you are staring off at...
  3. ... and if that doesn't help, just think about dead puppies.
If you have any other techniques, or advice that will help us look slightly less ridiculous, please share in the comments below!
