Snow and Sunshine

The first batch of pictures was taken when we visited the gorgeous old city of Quebec at night. Even though we were walking around in the snow, the narrow cobblestone streets and all the Christmas lights and decorations made the city feel cozy and indeed, antique. The second batch of pictures was taken on a hike the next day somewhere up in the snowy hills. We took a cable car up to the top of the mountain and the views were breathtaking. Trips like these really make me appreciate nature and make me think about what else the world has to offer out there. My friend also snapped a pic of some random person with the sickest ombre I've seen. Can't wait to go back someday! I'd love to see what Quebec is like during the summer...

We're Back!

As our previous post mentioned, we were up in Quebec freezing our arses off on a grade trip. I'm not usually one to sacrifice fashion for practicality, but I had to rock the oompa-loompa look to keep from turning into an icicle. Don't let Rebecca's lack of oompa-loompa jacket mislead you- she had, of course, many layers under there. We visited the old Quebec City, which was gorgeous...it looks like a mini Paris! We also went on a hike (as seen in the pictures above) and went snow tubing at night. I loved how  the French-ness of Quebec made us feel like we were in a completely foreign place, although we really were not that far from home. J'adore Quebec!

Denim n' Prints

I've begun to feel naked only wearing one layer, and I've been really loving the denim-peeking-out-from-under-printed shirt look lately. Its a good way to add a pop of color to a look and to keep warm. Another mini photo shoot taken fooling around during a free period. Cue the charity box being used as a clutch.

Bombay Meets Paris

The Chanel pre-Fall 2012 show was by far one of my favorites. I loved the way the Indian theme was extravagantly portrayed with the set up of the runway and of course, the clothes. The long, winding runway of white banquets together with the clothes that payed homage to such a rich culture was stunning. Here are some of my favorites.

 I really liked that the color palette and style stayed true to the traditional inspiration but also mixed with classic French touches to create a luxurious collection. What's even more exquisite is that Karl Lagerfeld was able to put this collection together without having ever gone to India. “It’s much more inspiring not to go to places than to go," he says.

After reading a short description about this line and seeing a few pictures, I immediately thought of a quote from the late Alexander McQueen- "Fashion can be really racist, looking at the clothing of other cultures as costumes... That's mundane and it's old hat. Let's break down some barriers".
I believe that Karl Lagerfeld definitely paid respect to Indian dress here. He beautifully fused the Indian tradition of dressing with the timeless Chanel style to create garments that harmoniously represent the two.
